Mind your Mood
When you first start your business, every little aspect of it is exciting!
It’s not too hard to act upbeat and positive. After all, you’re not acting… the feelings are very real.
Some time passes and yes, you still love what you do. But you don’t anymore get automatic happy feelings every time your phone rings.
Real life kicks in and it’s not always fun.
It’s at those very moments that it’s uber important for us to mind our mood.
Listen, I know it’s hard to hear, but we need to remember that our clients do have options. You might be the most talented, most popular, most trusted business owner in town. But no one enjoys being around a grumpy person.
Okay, I went a little extreme there. I know that the people I’m talking to today would never act grumpy in front of a client. Truthfully, it’s much more subtle than that.
It might be the tone with which you answer the phone. The topic of conversation you choose to discuss. The attitude with which you instruct your employee.
You can’t be snappy at your kid who is supposed to be in bed and then go right back to being all sweet to the client in front of you. Without realizing it, in that quick moment you just sucked out all the positive energy from the room.
Do everything you can to mind your mood.
Prepare yourself. Do a meditation. Say a prayer. Take a deep breath. Turn on the music.
Ground yourself. Distract yourself. Relax yourself.
It doesn't really matter what you choose. The main thing is to make sure that you give your clients a wonderful experience.
I know that your clients tell you that they are coming to you because you offer a great service or product. But, in reality, they are keep on coming only because of how you make them feel.
When you’re not feeling physically or emotionally great, it’s hard to give over positive feelings to your clients.
So please prioritize self-care. Set proper boundaries so that you don’t get resentful. And work on being grateful for what you have.
Of course, we all slip up from time to time. We might even go a few hours or days feeling down and not realizing it. It’s normal and it happens to me too. The key is to notice how we are feeling as soon as possible, take a deep breath, and come back to the present.
Because when you serve your clients with positivity, you will have the unique pleasure of watching them return happily and refer their friends with passion.
