Can you ever truly achieve work-life balance?

While I've been using my new-found time to learn how to bake bread, children everywhere have become obsessed with their bikes.

work-life balance

I've never seen so many kids riding around town. Schools, offices, and parks have been closed and their parking lots have been empty of cars. Children with bikes have completely taken them over.

Watching this new phenomenon has reminded me of the bicycle analogy that I often share with my clients during their private coaching sessions. During this trying time when many people struggle to create a new routine, I thought it would be appropriate for me to share it with you all.

Do you remember what it was like to learn how to ride a bike?

I'm pretty sure that when you first got on a two-wheeler, things were not immediately smooth sailing. You fell off your bike and scraped your knees over and over again.

Yet, it was obvious to you as a child that it will take some time for you to find your balance. You might have been impatient, but you didn't start doubting yourself and thinking that perhaps bike-riding was just not for you.

You knew that the more that you practice, the more natural it will become. Eventually you were off to the races!

Finding balance in business is much like finding balance on a bicycle.

Achieving "work-life balance" is a big lifestyle change. There are lots of new systems, schedules, and strategies to learn. Integrating all these changes in your life takes time and patience.

Yet, the results make it all worthwhile:

"I've been feeling soooo much calmer about everything... I love that my schedule is super realistic, so it's really set up for success. In the past I've made schedules based on what I believed should get done in that time, but time and time again I wasn't able to complete those tasks in the time allotted which made me feel unsuccessful and inadequate.

I've also found that if for some reason things didn't work out perfectly, I was able to get back on track without feeling bad about myself, sort of just restart."

Friend, I promise you that the life you dream of can one day feel effortless and natural. So hop on the bike and start riding today!
